Physiological Testing

Assessing your physiology with exercise testing allows for a much more insightful and purposeful training program. We offer performance testing to our athletes as part of their training plans but also testing and training consultation to athletes with other coaches. All of our testing is available both in studio on a bike or treadmill* or outdoors and isn’t strictly limited to cycling and running. The results are provided in PDF format and can be used to create a Longitudinal analysis of your performance breakdown.

It is possible to combine all of these tests in 1 day or a series of days in either our Cipressa Performance Package by selecting a bolt on test in the booking system

* treadmill testing is available at a different site and not at the Edinburgh Bike Fitting studio itself. Please contact us for more info if you plan on a running based test.

Metabolic Testing

With the use of PNOE metabolic analyser, gain unparalleled insight into the systems of your body that generate power. Identify gaps in your fitness profile which can be used to push through plateaus in your training like never before.

Metabolic Ramp Test (VO2 Max) - £125

This Session Includes:

  • Finding your ventilatory threshold powers, VO2 Max Fat and Carb max intensities and utilisation rates

  • A look into your Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Cellular, and Neuromuscular function with regards to exercise performance.

  • An expert breakdown analysis to form a detailed in depth view of your physiological profile and current fitness levels (and progress with continued appointments).

  • Training prescription outlined based around your goals and the results of your test sent to you and/or your coach.

  • Reduced rate on retesting and lease the device based on availability after baseline testing.

INSCYD Power Performance Decoder - £195

With the use of INSCYD software we offer PPD testing which is especially useful for endurance athletes looking to determine their rate of lactic acid accumulation and combustion.

By gaining your lactic acid accumulation rate and comparing that to your lactic acid at exhaustion we can accurately predict out how long you can ride above threshold before fatigue, and how long it will take you to combust that lactic acid before you go again.

Determine where your training focus should be with respect to aerobic or anaerobic endurance building. Project your threshold powers achievable by shifting your VLa max in one direction or the other and more accurately structure your plan around your goals.

This Session Includes:

  • Skinfold analysis to assess body composition before the test to improve results

  • Lactate or power testing based PPD

  • Full Digital and PDF INSCYD report generated after the test

Muscle Oxygen Utilisation and SmO2

SmO2 analysis gives the user a real-time view of muscle oxygen utilisation in the muscles you are wanting to look at.

Moxy helps to identify metabolic limitations at the muscle including decreased mitochondrial density and capillarization. This information provides clear metrics to design Hyper-individualised athlete specific effective and efficient training programs far superior to basing zones on FTP alone.
